Manchester United warned defender will cost huge fee if they renew interest

Manchester United could face a huge bill if they decide to revive their interest in Nottingham Forest defender Murillo, with the Brazilian still considered a key player at the City Ground.

The 24-year-old has been on United’s radar for some time and is now being considered again as Michael Carrick looks at ways to strengthen his defence.

However, getting a deal done will not be straightforward. Nottingham Forest have no desire to sell Murillo and, with the defender tied down until 2030, they are in no position where they need to accept an offer.

Forest ready to demand big money for Murillo

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, Pete O’Rourke explained why Manchester United could struggle to prise the centre-back away from Forest.

“It’ll be a really difficult deal to do because he only signed a new long-term deal last May to keep him at the City Ground until 2030,” O’Rourke said.

“I can’t see anything happening in January because Forest don’t need the money at the moment and he’s a very important player for them.”

United are instead expected to focus on the summer transfer window, with Murillo one of several defensive options being considered.

Forest’s stance means United would have to make a serious offer to even start discussions.

“So they are ready to put a big price tag on Murillo’s head because of his contract situation at the City Ground, and it would take a huge offer if they were to consider letting him go,” O’Rourke added.

As things stand, Murillo looks far more likely to remain at Forest than move to Old Trafford.
