Ajax goalkeeper to replace De Gea?

Jasper Cillessen is Ajax’s first choice goalkeeper and Netherlands’ star man between the sticks. He was selected ahead of Maarten Stekelenburg, Tim Krul and Michel Vorm to play in goal for the Netherlands at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil – with Louis van Gaal as his manager.

It is thought that his current club value him at £18 million – and they are willing to see him move to Old Trafford if that valuation is met with a formal bid. However, the ‘keeper himself does not think it will be as simple as that.

Speaking to The Sunday Mirror, he said “The Ajax management are going to make it really difficult when the interest becomes concrete,”

“If I had planned to leave, I would not have signed a new contract until 2018. My old contract was expiring in the summer of 2016 and in that case this summer would have been the perfect moment to leave.

Frank de Boer has been very clear when he received questions about my transfer – he wants to block it.”

With that contract extension and a stubborn manager who wants to keep one of the world’s best young goalkeeping talents, it appears it may take more than just the £18 million valuation to bring Jasper to United.

He would be an ideal replacement for David De Gea if the Spaniard were to leave, as the Dutchman is supple and agile, often acrobatic, in the same was as United’s current number 1.
