Reports from Denmark suggest that Anders Lindegaard is set to be handed a new contract by the Manchester United hierarchy – because Louis van Gaal wants him as 2nd choice goalkeeper.
Ekstra Bladet are reporting that De Gea will be leaving the club to reunite with him family and girlfriend by signing for Real Madrid, leaving the top two stoppers at Old Trafford as Victor Valdes and Anders Lindegaard.
Lindegaard had been number 2 for the Red Devils ever since David De Gea usurped him in between the sticks. At the start of De Gea’s United career, his unconvincing performances saw Lindegaard pick up a run of starts but the young Spaniard rapidly began to mature and become the monster he is today.
His Danish counterpart is a very talented goalkeeper and should be playing first team football but it can be assumed that should no goalkeepers be bought this summer, Lindegaard will definitely stake a claim to be United’s number one; he will look to give the veteran Victor Valdes something to fight for.
His contract runs until June 2016 so United will either give him a new contract this summer, or sell him so as to not lose him on a free next year.
