Fabinho linked to United

Manchester United are still in transfer talks with AS Monaco fullback Fabinho, according to Alex Harris in the Daily Star.

The reports surfaced following manager Louis van Gaal admitting his intent to sign a new right back.

The search continues after being linked with England international Nathanial Clyne but it is believed that he favours a move to fierce rivals Liverpool to join former teammate Adam Lallana.

The Dutch manager is in talks with the French side discuss a £10 million deal for the defender but Monaco are only willing to sell the Brazilian for £15million.

Fabinho, aged twenty-one, started his senior career at Rio Ave, signing a six year deal but immediately after just a month he was signed on a season long loan for Real Madrid’s B team, he made his debut on August 17 2012 and went on to make thirty appearances, scoring two goals. He was promoted to the first team, making his debut in 2013 against Malaga.

At the end of the 2013 season, he joined Monaco on loan. In the two years, he spent in Western France, he made sixty appearances for Les Rouges et Blancs. At the start of May, he made the change from Rio Ave to Monaco permanently foe £4milion.

United will have to take this into account as his, now, current contract will run till 2019. It isn’t all doom and gloom though, there is some hope for van Gaal as Monaco admit they would be happy to sell Fabinho if the Red Devils were to meet the £15million fee.

This past season, Fabinho only missed two games, these both games ended in defeat for Leonardo Jardim’s side. Fabinho isn’t commonly known for his attacking capabilities as a fullback, last season, he created twenty-two chances but as a defender, his dribbling will definitely benefit any team he plays for.

In comparison to Antonio Valencia, Fabinho blows him out the water. According to Squawka, Fabinho completed six more take on’s, he won nearly double the amount of aerial duels the Ecuadorian successfully won and finally in Ligue 1 last season, Fabinho made ninety three interceptions compared to Valencia’s fifty-seven.
