Celtic switch for Saidy?

Manchester United youngster Saidy Janko is on the verge of a move to Celtic, according to reports in both the Scottish Sun and the Daily Mail.

The Swiss under-19 international is being eyed as a replacement for Adam Matthews, who is reportedly being courted by numerous Premier League clubs.

Janko, who can play anywhere down the right hand side, joined United from FC Zurich for a £700,000 fee in the summer of 2013, but hasn’t quite broken into the first team picture despite being a regular at U21 level. His only appearance for the Reds so far was in the 4-0 humiliation by MK Dons in the League Cup last season.

He spent the second half of the season on loan at Championship side Bolton Wanderers, where he managed to make 10 appearances under former Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

There is uncertainty as to whether Janko will be leaving the Reds on a permanent basis. David Friel of the Scottish Sun reports that it will be a year-long loan deal, while Stephen McGowan of the Daily Mail reports that it will be a permanent departure from Old Trafford,

If Janko makes the move to Parkhead, he will become manager Ronny Delia’s second signing of the summer, following the capture of former Manchester City defender Derdryck Boyata.

It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Janko sent out on loan by Louis van Gaal again, but it would be a real shock to see the right-back leave the club for good. He has been offered a new contract by the Reds, which means that van Gaal sees some sort of potential in the 19-year old.
