Report: United Planning £15 Million Seamus Coleman Raid

UPDATE: (30/06/2015 )

Mark Ogden of the Telegraph reports that Roberto Martinez is looking into Leeds defender Sam Byram – in case Manchester United make a tempting bid for Coleman. This is a boost to van Gaal as Everton will be less reluctant to sell Coleman if they have a replacement lined up.

Manchester United will turn to Everton’s Seamus Coleman in their search for a new right back, according to reports in the Mirror.

United have already missed out on potential targets Dani Alves, who signed a new contract to stay at Barcelona, and Nathaniel Clyne, who is reportedly close to joining Liverpool, and the Republic of Ireland international full back has now emerged as the club’s top target.

The defender was one of the few bright performers in what was a disappointing season for the Toffees and Louis van Gaal will have to part with £15 million if he wants to add Coleman to his squad ahead of next season.

United will hope to avoid a sense of déjà vu as they chase another Everton full back, nearly two years on from David Moyes’ failed pursuit of Leighton Baines. It remains to be seen whether Coleman will attempt to force a move away from Merseyside but he may well be more open to joining United than Baines was.

The 26-year-old joined Everton from Sligo Rovers in January 2009, for a fee of just £60,000. He has made 185 appearances and scored 19 goals during his time at the club and has also established himself as a regular in the Republic of Ireland squad, earning 20 caps.
