van Persie looks set to move

According to Emre Sarigul of The Guardian, Robin van Persie is very close to joining Turkish Super Lig club, Fenerbahce.

In an online exclusive published on Saturday afternoon, Sarigul writes:

“The two clubs are currently negotiating a fee for the 31-year-old, who has agreed personal terms with the club and is ready to sign a four-year deal”

Last week, van Persie spoke about his desire to ensure he makes the Dutch squad for next year’s European Championships, so wants to be guaranteed first team football in order to secure his place on the plane to France.

The Guardian suggest that fellow Netherlands international Dirk Kuyt has been key in convincing van Persie to join up with him at Fenerbahce. Kuyt has won three trophies in Turkey and his performances for Fener were enough to convince Louis van Gaal to take him to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, where he played primarily as a right wing-back.

Robin van Persie would also be joining up with Emmanuel Emenike, Moussa Sow and Simon Kjaer at Fenerbache, who have managed to mimic rivals Galatasaray in bringing in experienced players from top European leagues.

There is also a possibility that van Persie would be arriving at Fener with a current team mate; the same Emre Sarigul of The Guardian has reported that Nani, who was on loan at Sporting Lisbon in 2014/15, has also agreed a contract with the Turkish club.

Manchester United are yet to agree fees for the players, who have accolades including the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League winners medals between them, but one thing is for sure – despite their ups and downs in form and success at Old Trafford, they will be missed if they are to depart.

They would leave a gap in Louis van Gaal’s attack; with Radamel Falcao already having left, the absence of van Persie and Nani would leave United’s only ‘first team’ striking options as Wayne Rooney and James Wilson, and possibly Adnan Januzaj, so it is safe to assume that Ed Woodward has something up his sleeve for this summer.
