United to hijack Begovic transfer

United to hijack Begovic transfer

Following the recent transfer of Petr Cech to Arsenal, Stoke City’s Asmir Begovic is wanted by Jose Mourinho to become Chelsea’s second-choice goalkeeper. However, according to The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel, Manchester United will be looking to acquire the Bosnia-Herzegovina international, if David De Gea leaves for Real Madrid this summer. If United lose the Spaniard, van Gaal will be looking to add another quality goalkeeper to the squad, as Lindegaard is clearly out of favour with the Dutchman; he didn’t feature in one game last season.

Jose Mourinho wants to give competition to Belgian international ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois, and thinks Asmir Begovic will provide that. Begovic, 28, has now had numerous years of experience playing in the Premier League, and will look to the make the step up to play for one of the best clubs in England. He will have to weigh up the pros and cons of the potential moves, if he gets the option between Manchester United and Chelsea. Begovic probably wouldn’t see much game time at Chelsea, mainly due to the world-class and young Courtois. Begovic would probably be given cup games and would only be given a chance to replace Courtois as the number one if the Belgium’s form dropped dramatically, but you wouldn’t count on it following his impressive debut Premier League season. Chelsea will be looking to wrap up the deal as soon as possible

Chelsea have reportedly seen a £6 million bid become rejected, and is expected to increase their bid to £8 million in the next few days. However, Stoke look set to hold out for £10 million, but will cash in if they’re aware that he won’t extend his contract, which expires next summer. The transfer of Asmir Begovic wouldn’t be a huge loss to Stoke, if it occurs, as they have Jack Butland waiting in the wings, who I believe should be given a run of games and a chance in the Premier League, if he’s going to progress and achieve his potential.
