Barcelona forward Pedro’s proposed move to Manchester United is imminent – according to his mother.
The Daily Mail report that a close friend of the family has revealed all – by telling Spanish radio station Cadena Ser of the transfer.
Cadena Ser, alongside Cadena COPE have received somewhat of a cult following among United supporters, having notoriously become “more reliable” than other Spanish media establishments such as Marca and AS.
The aforementioned family friend is Jaime Lorenzo, the president of Raqui San Isidro; this was the first professional club Pedro played for. Live on the radio, he said:
“The player was here working at a soccer school a few weeks back and his friends already know he is going.”
“And the other day I saw Pedro’s mum in a furniture shop and she told me that he is going to England. I believe it’s a good challenge for him and it means he will get more playing time.”
The transfer of Pedro, if it is to go ahead, could spell the end for Angel di Maria, who supposedly is searching out a move to Paris Saint-Germain. The player failed to report to the club’s pre-season tour of the United States and is currently AWOL.
The Mail report that Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, a former captain of the Catalan club, wants Pedro to stay until 11th August, but United would rather seal the move in time for the Red Devils’ Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on the 8th. The reason behind Barcelona wanting to keep their man for a little longer is for to use him in the Super Cup, for which Neymar is likely not to be available.
The reported fee for Pedro is £22,000,000, from which Jaime Lorenzo’s San Isidro would gain £317,000 in sell-on fees – so the president is bound to be pleased that his star pupil will be facing a new challenge in England.
