Manchester United centre-back and Northern Ireland international Jonny Evans is close to leaving Old Trafford, having fallen far down the pecking order under Louis van Gaal; according to John Percy of the Daily Telegraph, on Twitter.

Just over a year ago, Evans was the villain of the piece as MK Dons trounced Manchester United 4-0 in the Capital One Cup. It was one of the worst performances United fans have ever seen as the League One side dominated everywhere, especially in United’s defensive third.
Evans is now behind Chris Smalling, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones and Paddy McNair as a centre-back, having previously looked to have stepped up to mantle to be a real leader before Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement at the end of the 2012/13 season, which is when the club last won the Premier League.
If Evans is to leave the club in the coming days, it may mean that a defensive player is incoming before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday evening.
Evans came through United’s academy to reach the first team, making his senior debut against Coventry City in 2007, replacing Gerard Pique in the second half of a League Cup match.
