United add defender to youth ranks

Manchester United made more than one signing on transfer deadline day on Tuesday; but the second slipped under the radar due to the confirmation of Anthony Martial’s arrival from French side AS Monaco.

17-year-old defender Regan Poole arrived from Newport County for an undisclosed fee. When he made his debut for the Welsh side last summmer, he became their youngest ever player.

According to the official Manchester United website, he has been brought in to bolster the club’s academy side, with players such as Axel Tuanzebe set to move up to the under-21 set up.

Poole plays for Wales at under-17 level and according to his now ex-manager, was never going to be interested in any other club once United came calling:

“It is every boy’s dream to play for Manchester United, and it’s a wonderful opportunity for him to progress at such a magnificent club. It doesn’t matter which country you are in, or where you are in the world, when Manchester United come calling you have to answer.”

It seems that there has been a domino effect in United’s junior levels, with Tyler Blackett’s loan to Celtic allowing academy centre-backs to move to the under-21s and now Poole to seal a move to United.

We’ll keep an eye on him – he’s said to be one of the promising young centre-backs in the country.
