Louis van Gaal has once again been angered by Argentinian international defender Marcos Rojo.
The 25-year-old, who can play at centre-back or left-back and has done both in United’s last two games, failed to alert either his manager or the club’s medical staff to the extent of his hamstring injury, suffered in Sunday’s 3-2 victory over Southampton.
Rojo was substituted in the second half and replaced by Paddy McNair but didn’t tell anyone that his injury was more severe than the club thought, which has angered manager van Gaal, according to the Daily Telegraph.
He will miss Wednesday night’s Capital One Cup game against Ipswich Town and is now also a doubt for the weekend’s fixture against struggling Sunderland. With Luke Shaw out for at least 6 months with a broken leg and Tyler Blackett on loan to Scottish champions Celtic, van Gaal is short of defensive options on the left side.
McNair is also set to miss the Ipswich game through injury, meaning he can’t fill in for Rojo at centre-back – so Michael Carrick may have to play in defence, something which he has done on a few occasions before.
