Wilson set for loan deal

Wilson set for loan deal

Manchester United striker James Wilson is set to go on loan to Celtic in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The 19-year old has only made one substitute appearance for United this season, and with the likes of Anthony Martial, Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini ahead of him in the pecking order, manager Louis van Gaal is happy for Wilson to continue his development elsewhere.

Celtic boss Ronny Delia had been looking to sign Wilson on loan in the summer transfer window, but the move didn’t materialise because the England under-21 international had not signed a new deal at Old Trafford.

However, Wilson has now signed a new contract to remain at United until 2019 and this will pave the way for a six-month spell at Parkhead with the Scottish champions.

Alex Livesey/Getty Images SportDelia is looking to bolster his striking ranks, which are light at the moment. Although Leigh Griffiths’ goal tally has reached double figures already, summer signing Nadir Çiftçi has failed to impress so far and Anthony Stokes has been told that he has no future at the club.

Former West Ham man Carlton Cole was rumoured to be joining the Scottish champions a few weeks back and had been training with the side, but contract talks were shelved when he picked up an injury.

If the move goes through, Wilson will link up with defender Tyler Blackett, who was loaned out to Celtic for the season, and former United man Saidy Janko, who signed for the Bhoys in the summer.
