Portuguese defender flattered by United interest

Sporting Libson defender and supposed Manchester United transfer target Paulo Oliveira is flattered by reported interest in him from the Old Trafford club, according to Uche Amako of the Daily Express.

United last bought a player from the green-and-white Portuguese side in 2014, when they signed Argentina international Marcos Rojo. Incidentally, Oliveira joined Sporting soon before that deal went through – so if he were to come to United, the Red Devils will have bought both Rojo and his replacement!

The Express claim that Louis van Gaal has on more than one occasion sent scouts to watch the Portuguese defender, who is having a very solid season so far – although there are other Sporting players, such as William Carvalho, who the United scouts could be keeping an eye on.

Nonetheless, Oliveira is happy with suggestion that he’s attracting attention from one of the world’s biggest clubs:

“It’s a good sign… I don’t know the truth of these claims, but it’s good to know that your work is being assessed and I have continue to work so as to not rest on my laurels.”

It’s nice to see that he’s keeping his feet on the ground – it’s a great attitude to have, which can only further increase his appeal to any club who are looking at him.
