Bebe thought United move was a joke

Notorious Manchester United flop Bebe has said in a recent interview that he originally believed that his move to Manchester United was a joke.

When being asked about the infamous £7.4m deal, he said he believed that his teammates had been ‘leading him on’, and couldn’t comprehend the fact that one of the biggest clubs in the world wanted to acquire his services. Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that he had never seen Bebe play prior to his signature.

He also states that he was given no reasoning from David Moyes as to why he was frozen out of the team.

“I’m not sure it would have made a difference had Ferguson stayed. David didn’t invite me to even train with the first team squad for pre-season. He didn’t take a look at me or contact me. There was no explanation.”

The 25-year-old moved to Benfica on a permanent deal last year. He made a total of seven appearances in total for United, and scored only twice, amounting to £3.7m per goal. He made more appearances for the reserves than the senior team.

Bebe is currently on loan to Spanish side Rayo Vallecano and on Saturday night provided a top-notch assist to help open the scoring against Barcelona at the Nou Camp – although his side ended up losing 5-2, thanks to four goals from the unstoppable Neymar.
