Manchester United have reportedly readied a €40 million bid for Bayer Leverkusen star Hakan Calhanoglu, according to multiple reports.
German newspaper Bild has reported that Manchester United has watched Calhanoglu scouts for months. Since the season started, the scouts have seen the Turk score three goals and assist just as many.
It seems the club from Germany are reluctant to part ways with the playmaker but the club CEO, Michael Schade, said that they would struggle to keep hold of him. The player has only been at the club for a season as he arrived from Hamburg in 2014 for a fee of €14.5 million.
Schade told Bild:
We want to keep Hakan, but there is an absolute limit.
The 21-year-old has established himself as one of the best free-kick specialists in the world of football and that is probably the reason why his fee has increased from €14m to €40m in a year. This has made him one of the best young talents in the Bundesliga and he has scored a total of 18 goals in 63 games for Bayer 04.
This rumour has been pushed forward as this month, Louis Van Gaal, has confirmed he wants to make additions to the club in January, despite spending around £110m this year already.
I have already said, in the transfer period, I could not buy every player I want and that’s also because of the market.
I have said that we need creative, speedy players in attack. You have seen which players I have bought; I like that profile, but we need more.
I think that all the players I want do want to come. It is not a question of the players, it is a question of the clubs who are stopping them.
