Manchester United are targeting young Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to the Daily Mirror.
They report that the Reds have increased their scouting on the Holland under-19 international, and United manager Louis van Gaal has received excellent feedback about the 18-year old from his scouts.
van de Beek hasn’t made a first-team appearance as of yet, but he recently signed a new four-and-a-half year contract at Ajax, and per the Mirror, there is also interest in the midfielder from clubs in Spain and Italy.
The young midfielder has been highly rated by Ajax since he joined the club as a kid, but his career has only taken off in the past couple of years. He was a star performer at the 2014 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, leading the Oranje to the final where they lost to England.

He has since made the step up to under-19 level, becoming a regular feature in the side. van de Beek was also named Ajax’s Talent of the Future at the end of the 2014-15 season, given to the best young prospect coming out of the academy.
The award has been previously won by Wesley Sneijder, Christian Eriksen and current United player Daley Blind, which is clearly a sign of van de Beek’s talent.
van de Beek’s best position is as a holding midfielder, but he can also play further forward in central and attacking midfield. His passing and vision are his best attributes, and coming from De Toekomst, he would certainly fit into van Gaal’s current style of play. The youngster would certainly be a good signing for the future.
