United target set to be offered new deal

AC Milan keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is set to be offered a new contract to fend off reported interest from Manchester United, according to talkSPORT.

talkSPORT cite reports from Italy that state United have already tracked Donnarumma for several years, linking the youngster with a move to Old Trafford in January.

However, the Rossoneri are determined to keep hold of the 16-year old, who is expected to have a bright future and has been compared to Italian legend Gianluigi Buffon.

Donnarumma’s current contract expires in 2018, and any new terms would be expected to contain a pay rise and a further extension of several years, after the 16-year old made his debut last month for Milan against Sassuolo, becoming the youngest-ever goalkeeper to start a Serie A match.

It has certainly been a whirlwind couple of weeks for the youngster, having started the season as Siniša Mihajlović’s third-choice goalkeeper. However, whether United are actually interested in the keeper is another question, as the Reds’ goalkeeping ranks are quite stocked at the moment.

David de Gea is the undisputed first choice at Old Trafford, and undoubtedly one of the world’s best keepers. Sergio Romero is an able deputy and there is still Sam Johnstone and the unwanted Victor Valdes behind the Argentinian. I’d take this rumour with a pinch of salt, and expect the Rossoneri to tie down Donnarumma with a long-term contract.
