Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is weighing up his options with respect to the possible recall of Belgian youngster Adnan Januzaj from his season-long loan spell in the Bundesliga.
According to The Mirror, Januzaj may be making a faster-than-expected return to Old Trafford as he is not getting the game time he was expected to pick up with Borussia Dortmund – and United seriously need some attacking reinforcement right now.
Summer signing Memphis Depay has played well in the Champions League for the Red Devils but has failed to make all too much of an impact in the Premier League, meanwhile defensive injuries have meant Ashley Young has been occupying full-back positions, rather than coming in as an attacking force in the recent absence of Memphis from van Gaal’s team sheets.
Januzaj himself has been spending almost all of his time in Germany on the bench for Dortmund; of his nine appearances for the Bundesliga giants, seven have come as a substitute. It would be more than reasonable to assume that had he stayed at United this season, he would have been given much more time on the pitch and be further along in his development.
Able to play across the front four, Adnan would be up against an exceptional Jesse Lingard if he were to come back sooner rather than later – but the two combining would also be an option and that is sure to excite United fans; imagine Lingard, Martial and Januzaj all starting every week, developing together and helping United back to trophies.
With Saturday’s 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion being United’s first goals in the league since three games ago, more is needed in attack and the reintroduction of Adnan Januzaj could be the catalyst.
