Manchester United are ready to make an opening bid for highly-rated Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben, after the Dutchman fell out with teammate Robert Lewandowski, according to the Sunday Mirror.
The 31-year-old has been on manager Louis Van Gaal’s radar since his arrival at Old Trafford. However, for numerous reasons, a move has never materialised.
In six seasons at the Allianz Arena, Robben has scored 108 goals in 196 appearances. Manchester United’s lack of goals this season has been recognised by Van Gaal, and the Dutch manager wants his compatriot to join him at the 13-time Premier League champions.
This could be the ideal time for the Red Devils to swoop in to sign the ex-Chelsea man though, as a bust-up with Poland international Robert Lewandowski has made Robben unhappy in Germany.
The move could, however, have an impact on Memphis Depay’s immediate future in Manchester. After being dropped in recent weeks for Jesse Lingard, who was called up to the England squad for their match against France on Tuesday, Depay could be exempt from the match-day squad should Robben complete a move to the prestigious club.
