Wolves boss keeping a close eye on Wilson

Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Kenny Jackett has admitted in the Express & Star that he’s keeping an eye on Manchester United striker James Wilson’s progress at the club with a view to signing the striker in the January transfer window.

He said:

We’ve kept an eye on it but we haven’t made any fresh inquiries in terms of James.

The 19-year-old has made just two appearances for United this season and is in need of first-team football which now may come at Old Trafford due to Anthony Martial picking up an injury on international duty against England last night.

If Wilson’s chances continue to be limited, the striker may have to go out on loan to get a taste of first-team action in order to fulfil his potential.

Louis van Gaal confirmed earlier this season that he would wait until December before making a decision on Wilson’s future, but with United crashing out of the Capital One Cup in the early stages, the likelihood is that Wilson will leave on loan.

van Gaal said:

Maybe we have to wait until December to know how it is with our club – if we are succeeding in the Champions League, the Capital One Cup, because maybe he shall receive minutes off me because I have to rotate.
