Everton are determined not to let prized asset John Stones leave for cheap and have slapped a £45 million price tag on the 21-year-old.
Chelsea, who had their bid in the region of £38 million rejected this past summer, are now being rivalled by Manchester United too as Louis van Gaal looks keen on snapping up the Barnsley-born defender, per the Manchester Evening News.
Although Everton boss Roberto Martinez insists that Stones is not for sale, but it is understood that an offer in the region of £45 million would persuade the Toffees into offloading the England international.
United’s interest in Stones isn’t as evident as Chelsea’s, but it hasn’t exceeded the limit of just monitoring him. One of the most sought out and coveted defenders in the world right now, Stones may be tempted to join Chelsea once again this summer, as the Blues prepare another offer.
Meanwhile, Martinez is confident that Everton will not be offloading any players this winter, saying:
I’m not worried at all. Our best players will not be leaving in January. We’re not in a position where we have to make financial decisions or balance the books.
