Manchester United have joined Barcelona and Wolfsburg in the race to sign Basel striker Breel Embolo, according to Swiss paper Blick.
They report that United scout Peter Braund was at the Europa League game between the Swiss giants and Fiorentina on Thursday to monitor the progress of the 18-year-old. The paper also reports that Braund was also keeping an eye out for Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero.
The Cameroonian-born Swiss international burst onto the scene last season, scoring 17 goals in all competitions and has started this season in fine form, having already scored eight goals in all competitions.

Embolo’s pace and power has attracted the attention of Europe’s top clubs, and United’s lack of firepower up front may see the Reds attempt to snap up the striker, who already has seven caps for Switzerland.
Signing Embolo may prove to be a massive gamble, but Louis van Gaal will feel that the capture of this young striker might be another masterstroke signing. After all, Anthony Martial was an unknown quantity to many United fans until he lit up the Premier League with his debut goal against Liverpool.
However, the 18-year-old will not come cheap, with Basel expecting bids in the region of £15-20 million before even considering letting go of their prized asset. Expect this saga to rumble on throughout the January transfer window and possibly in the summer.
