United linked with Portuguese pair

Manchester United have sent scouts to check on the progress of Braga’s Rafa Silva and Benfica’s Gonçalo Guedes, according to Portuguese paper A Bola.

A delegation was in attendance last night as the reigning Portuguese champions beat Braga at the Estádio AXA, and they were looking at two of the biggest rising stars in Portuguese football.

The 22-year-old Rafa is an attacking midfielder, known for his quick feet, great vision and good finishing ability. Able to play in the hole as well as on the wings, Rafa has five caps for Portugal and has been likened to Chelsea’s Eden Hazard. Tottenham and Liverpool have also been linked with the man who started out his career with second division side Feirense.

Matthew Lewis/Getty Images SportGuedes, meanwhile, has been compared to a young Cristiano Ronaldo, and it’s easy to see why. He can play on either wing, and his trickery and pace can cause problems for any defender. The 19-year-old broke into the Benfica first-team this season and his fine form saw him given his first two caps for Portugal last month. Arsenal and Chelsea have also been scouting Guedes extensively, and he is expected to develop into a world-class player.

United have been extensively linked with Benfica’s Nicolas Gaitan in the past, but a move hasn’t come to fruition. It’s clear for all to see that the Reds need attacking reinforcements if they want to win the Premier League title, but if any of these two are to be signed by United, it will clearly be a move for the future, as Louis van Gaal aims to create a solid platform before he leaves Old Trafford.
