Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc has admitted that Adnan Januzaj’s loan deal was a bad move for both sides.
The Belgian winger joined the Bundesliga side in August but failed to start a single Bundesliga game for Thomas Tuchel’s side during a four-month spell at the Signal Iduna Park.
All of the 20-year-old’s starts came in the Europa League and both sides agreed to terminate the youngster’s loan, given that he has failed to break into the Dortmund side and would have been unlikely to in the second half of the season.

Speaking to German paper Kicker, Zorc said:
It was a wish of Adnan to go back. The loan wasn’t a good deal for both sides all in all.
Januzaj’s return will add depth to United’s stuttering attack this season, but the Belgian will have to force his way back into Louis van Gaal’s first-team plans and the Dutchman may ease him back into the reckoning by having him play a few games with the Under-21 side first.
United have until 5pm on Friday to register Januzaj for Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Sheffield United, but the Belgian cannot feature in the Red Devils’ Europa League campaign this season, as he has already played for BVB in the same tournament.

Januzaj also may not be loaned out to another club this season as he has already played for the Reds this season – he played four times before heading to Dortmund – and FIFA rules state that players cannot play for more than two clubs in a single season.
