It’s transfer deadline day and Manchester United could be involved in a huge shock as the clock ticks down to 11pm UK time; but it wouldn’t be a happy story for Manchester United fans.

According to Spanish outlet Don Balon, Juan Mata is a transfer target for La Liga and Champions League holders, FC Barcelona.

Luis Enrique’s side already boast the talents of Messi, Suarez and Neymar in the world’s most impressive attacking trident, but Mata is thought to be open to a return to his home country.

Don Balon claim that Mata, who signed for United in January 2014, would be happy to leave Old Trafford, as he wants to ensure a place in Spain’s squad for Euro 2016, which will take place in France this summer.

An offer is yet to be made by the Catalan heavyweights, but there’s plenty of time left for that to happen – although it would be a surprise to see the Spaniard leave the club without a replacement coming in; Barcelona have Arda Turan, Aleix Vidal and Munir, all capable of playing on the right flank – could a swap deal be on the cards?
