Manchester United and Manchester City are both looking to sign West Ham defender Angelo Ogbonna, according to The Times.
The Italian had a shaky start to life at Upton Park after joining in a £8 million move from Juventus last summer but has grown into a key member of Slaven Bilic’s side with a number of impressive performances.
Both Manchester clubs have been impressed by the 27-year-old’s physical attributes and pace, as well as the ease to which he has adapted to the Premier League this season.
Louis van Gaal may also be attracted by Ogbonna’s versatility, given that the centre-back can also play at left-back if needed. United are in dire need of centre-backs at the moment, given Michael Carrick and Daley Blind have both been playing in the centre of defence recently.
City, on the other hand, will be looking for a permanent defensive partner for Vincent Kompany. Martín Demichelis and Eliaquim Mangala have looked shaky throughout their time at the Etihad while Nicolás Otamendi has struggled to adapt to the Premier League.
The Hammers will be reluctant to sell, but a large fee may be enough to tempt them into selling.
