Diarra to move to United?

Marseille midfielder Lassana Diarra could make the move to Manchester United in the summer – but only if Jose Mourinho takes charge at Old Trafford.

The 31-year-old’s career has been rejuvenated since joining Marseille on a free transfer in the summer, after having not played football for 15 months due to a contract dispute with his former side, Lokomotiv Moscow.

Diarra’s early-season form earned himself a return to the French national team after five years in the international wilderness and it is almost a certainty that the defensive midfielder will make Didier Deschamps’ squad for Euro 2016 on home soil this summer, despite Marseille languishing in mid-table in Ligue 1.

And French outlet Le10 Sport believe that former Arsenal and Portsmouth man could be one of Mourinho’s main targets if the Portuguese manager takes charge at Old Trafford – with the 53-year-old having signed Diarra during his initial stint in charge of Chelsea and at Real Madrid.

However, United will face competition for Diarra’s signature if Mourinho does indeed take over from Louis van Gaal at the end of this season, with fellow Premier League side Tottenham also interested in the 31-year-old’s talents. Mourinho’s former side, Inter Milan and Serie A champions Juventus have also scouted Diarra this season.
