Dutch youngster confirms United transfer

Dutch youngster Tahith Chong has confirmed that he will be joining Manchester United.

The 16-year-old Feyenoord attacker seemingly announced the switch on his Instagram account today, with his account bio reading: “Future player of Manchester United”.

There was a picture going around on Twitter with Chong in a United shirt, but the player himself confirmed that he had no Twitter account and the picture had been photoshopped:

United had been tracking Chong for a number of years and it is an open secret that the 16-year-old has immense talent and could well develop into a first-team United player in the next couple of years.

Chong is a left winger who recently represented the Netherlands at the UEFA Under-17 Championships in Azerbaijan in May, scoring one goal as the Oranje were knocked out at the semi-final stage by eventual champions Portugal.

The Curaçao-born player will be hoping to emulate fellow Dutchman Timothy Fosu-Mensah, who joined from Ajax at the same age and eventually broke through to the first-team this season at the tender age of 18.

The deal has not been officially announced by United, but Chong should join Villarreal defender Eric Bailly as the second signing that has been completed under José Mourinho in this summer’s transfer window.
