Manchester United have reinforced their defence this summer, with the signing of Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly from Villarreal – but there is still a gap to be filled.
Jose Mourinho is thought to have identified Jose Fonte of Southampton as the best option to invest in at centre-back, given that he already has a wealth of Premier League experience and no mountains will need to be moved in terms of his price.
The Portuguese centre-back is rather obviously a crucial part of Puel’s plans on the south coast – but could be tempted to United by the thought of playing with the likes of Paul Pogba and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
It has been said however, that United won’t bring Fonte in unless they relieve themselves of at least one other centre-back – and Marcos Rojo is thought to be the one who’ll be shown the exit door if need be. Interestingly, it has emerged that the World Cup runner-up could actually be offered to the Saints.
So the question is simple… Fonte or Rojo?
