United make enquiry about Monaco’s Bakayoko

Manchester United have opened talks with Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco for Tiemoue Bakayoko, according to the player’s agent.

Agent Michel Boli told the Birmingham Mail about the interest in his client, with fellow Premier League clubs West Brom, Stoke City and Leicester City also said to be monitoring the Frenchman’s progress.

Juventus have seen him play three times this summer. There is also interest from Manchester United, West Brom and Stoke City. Leicester City contacted us very recently.

However, the France U21 international is reportedly set on staying with Monaco, having made 22 appearances for Leonardo Jardim’s team since arriving from Rennes in 2014.

Tiémoué’s priority is to stay at Monaco.

Bakayoko, 22, has been heavily linked with a summer departure after struggling to cement his place the starting line-up at the Stade Louis II in his two seasons at the club.

The defensive midfielder, who can also play as a central defender, was on the shortlist for Ligue’s Young Player of the Season in 2013/14 but lost to Paris Saint-Germain’s Marco Verratti.
