Former England boss Sven-Göran Eriksson believes Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney should consider a move to the Chinese Super League.
Rooney is the new all-time leading goalscorer at United, as he eclipsed Sir Bobby Charlton’s record by scoring goal number 250 with a wonderful free-kick against Stoke over the weekend.
However, the former England manager is already touting the forward for a move to the mega-money league.
Speaking on BBC Radio Five Live’s Sportsweek programme, Eriksson, who manages Chinese second division side Shenzhen FC, said:
He has to make that decision together with his family and agent and so on, but why not?
China today is a great place to live. If you have never been in China, you don’t believe your eyes when you come here today and I’m sure Rooney could play in any team here.
The Chinese league has attracted a host of high-profile players over the last few transfer windows, with ex-Red Carlos Tevez reported to be earning upwards of £600,000 p/w with new club Shanghai Shenhua.
That being said, the England and United skipper still has another couple of seasons left on his current contract, and has recently expressed he’d be happy to sign an extension to end his career in Manchester.
