Mid-table German Bundesliga side SC Freiburg have insisted that defender Caglar Soyuncu is not for sale, amid reports from Turkish media that Manchester United are interested in his services.
According to ESPN, United and City have targeted the young Turkish defender, who joined the German side from Turkish second division club Izmir last year.
Soyuncu is a quick, physical centre-back with a lot of promise. The 20-year-old is having a great season in the Bundesliga and clearly has a bright future.
Jochen Saier, Freiburg’s sporting director, said:
He is not for sale this summer because we want to continue on our path with him and he also wants that.
Soyuncu himself seems very happy at the club – meaning a summer exit is not on the cards:
I am in exactly the right place. I’m not thinking about a summer transfer.
United’s last defensive signing, Eric Bailly, is having a fantastic season himself – but many United fans hold the opinion that he needs a new partner at centre-back, despite the impressive performances of Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo this season.
