Could Riyad Mahrez be on his way to United?

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho said at the start of the summer transfer window that he wanted four signings — and it could be said that he has those four.

With Victor Lindelof, Nemanja Matic and Romelu Lukaku all signed this summer, as well as Zlatan Ibrahimovic re-registering as a United player for this season, United have made four signings, although since Ibrahimovic technically never left the club, it would be fair to argue that Mourinho is still waiting for his fourth signing.

In a rather interesting turn of events, Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has been given permission by the Algerian FA to leave his international commitments today to formalise a move to his new club (as per BBC Sport).

The Foxes winger won PFA Player of the year two seasons ago as his side dramatically lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time in their history, exceeding all expectations.

Today, transfer deadline day for most of Europe, the Algerian FA have said that Mahrez: “was authorised by the national coach Lucas Alcaraz and the Algerian Football Federation to make an express trip to Europe to formalise on Thursday his transfer to his new club”.

The Algerian played in the Champions League with Leicester last season and is certainly one of the league’s most exciting wingers, so would be a solid signing for a United squad who could do with some more natural width.
