Matty Willock completes deadline day loan switch

Manchester United youngster Matty Willock has been sent out on loan for the 2017-18 season, following an impressive campaign for the Red Devil’s reserve side in 2016-17.

The young Englishman has moved to Eredivisie side FC Utrecht, who finished 4th in the league last season.

Willock has not yet made a senior appearance for United, but has trained with the first team on a number of occasions and made it onto the bench for Premier League games at the end of last season.

Utrecht are managed by Erik ten Hag and their squad includes the talents of Urby Emanuelson and the on-loan Jean-Christophe Bahebeck, who has joined on a temporary basis from French side PSG.

This loan move is the next logical step in his development — having mixed with the senior players at United, he is now to gain invaluable experience playing top-flight European football, before returning to United in the summer.

Willock was released by Arsenal at the age of 15 before being picked up by United. His brothers, Chris and Joe Willock, were both kept on by Arsenal and Chris, who is the older of the two, recently made a permanent move to Benfica, where he will join the B team.
