- Manchester United admire Morgan Rogers
- Aston Villa star ‘open’ to summer transfer
- Three other Premier League clubs keen
Manchester United are reportedly one of four top Premier League clubs eyeing Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers. The Englishman has been in superb form this season and was a thorn in the Reds’ side in December.
Rogers scored a stunning brace in Villa’s 2-1 win over United at Villa Park. He put in one of many sensational performances, prompting many to insist he deserves to start for England at the World Cup.
The 23-year-old has appeared 44 times across competitions, posting 10 goals and seven assists. He has over five years on his contract but is seemingly prepared to depart this summer.
Rogers That
That’s according to SunSport, who report that Rogers “would be open” to joining one of the Premier League’s big guns. United are “in the mix” but so too are Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, who are all long-term admirers.
Rogers wants to be part of a team that are consistently challenging for trophies. There’s an understanding between the player and his club that this summer could be the right time for him to move on.
The England international doesn’t seem a priority for the Red Devils, as he mostly operates in the attacking midfield. But he has spent time out on the left throughout his spell at Villa Park.
Michael Carrick hinted earlier this year that United should be on the lookout for a new left winger. The club have since been linked with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye.
A potential deal for Rogers could cost over £80m, and there are suggestions it might take £100m to sign the former Manchester City star. A move to Old Trafford could appeal, given he grew up idolising former Reds Cristiano Ronaldo and Paul Pogba.
Rogers Could Be Bruno Fernandes’ Heir
Rogers is likely to be in contention to win the Premier League’s Player of the Year award. He’s enjoyed a stellar season and has been one of the best attacking midfielders in the top flight.
That said, if anyone playing in that position deserves the award, it’s Bruno Fernandes. The United captain has been unplayable at times, thriving even in a deeper role under Carrick’s predecessor, Ruben Amorim.
Fernandes came into the season following a summer of uncertainty over his future. He was linked with a move to Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal but snubbed a lucrative contract offer.
There is no certainty that Fernandes will stay at United beyond June 2027 when his contract expires. If that’s the case, there might not be a better option out there than Rogers to replace him.
Bringing Rogers to the Theatre of Dreams ahead of the 31-year-old’s potential departure would be the perfect plan. His versatility would give Carrick or whoever is in charge plenty of options and allow him to learn from the Premier League’s best playmaker.
