  • Dorgu set to make return
  • Last played vs Arsenal in January
  • Brentford clash too early for Danish star

Michael Carrick has confirmed that Manchester United winger Patrick Dorgu is close to making his return to the pitch after being sidelined for over three months.

United have fared well under Carrick, and last week’s 1-0 win over Chelsea saw them bounce back to winning ways. The Red Devils are close to sealing their return to the UEFA Champions League and need all the players in fine form.

They are set to be handed a timely boost as one key player is close to making his return to the pitch after missing the last three months. However, the Brentford clash on Monday, April 27, comes too early.

Carrick Confirms Dorgu Set For Return

Speaking to the media ahead of the Brentford clash in the Premier League on Monday, Carrick had some good news for the Manchester United fans. He said that the Danish star was close to making his return, and has been trainingly with the first team in parts.

The £25 million signing from Leece suffered a hamstring injury in the 1-0 win over Arsenal in January, soon after scoring a stunning goal at the Emirates. He has been on the sidelines since, but the head coach is hopeful of having his star man back for the final matches of the season.

“Patrick’s looking to get back closer to the group in a very small part, which is fantastic, because he’s worked so hard over a period of time now. So it’ll be good to have him back in and around the group within the next week or so.”

Dorgu is expected to make his return to the pitch against Liverpool or Sunderland in May.

Matheus Cunha Stepped Up During Dorgu Absence

Matheus Cunha has revealed that he played the left-wing role Michael Carrick pencilled in for Patrick Dorgu. The Brazilian told TNT Sports that he likes to play off the left and urged the United coach to give him a chance in that role.

“To be honest, I know I have these skills to dribble and this is amazing because I spoke to Michael when he arrived. He said ‘hey we need one winger, maybe we’ll put Patrick [Dorgu] there because he’s on the left.’ I said to him ‘no, you can put me there and I will do the things.'”

He added:

“Now when there’s training, I dribble more, I have more winger qualities. To get the ball, go one against one. Everything like that. I played more in the middle at Wolves. To show this kind of skill, I feel like I can adapt well in different positions.”

Cunha has scored four goals in his 12 matches under Carrick, while also assisting three times in just under 900 minutes on the pitch.
