Update on Andre Onana Leaving Manchester United

  • Manchester United goalkeeper possibly on the move
  • Turkish clubs have shown interest in signing him
  • Who do United bring in?

Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana looks increasingly likely to depart the club, with several Turkish sides monitoring the Cameroonian’s situation closely ahead of the summer window.

After two turbulent seasons defined by inconsistency and high-profile errors, many supporters would not shed too many tears if his time at Old Trafford ends.

Onana’s spell has oscillated between extremes: costly mistakes that swung momentum away from United, and flashes of genuine brilliance that reminded everyone why the club invested so heavily in him.

He was, after all, nominated twice for Premier League Save of the Season, notably for his extraordinary double stop against Crystal Palace in September 2024 and his reflex intervention against Liam Delap on Ruben Amorim’s debut in November of the same year.

Yet the broader narrative has remained unforgiving. The errors have lingered longer than the highlights, and United have already moved him on loan to Trabzonspor, where he now continues his career.

Onana To Stay in Turkiye?

According to Samuel Luckhurst of The Sun, United are prepared to facilitate a permanent exit this summer, with Onana’s future effectively open for resolution.

Loanee side Trabzonspor have shown interest in him, but other Turkish sides are keeping tabs on the keeper.

However, any permanent deal hinges on valuation. United need £18.9 million to avoid registering a loss under the Premier League’s profitability and sustainability framework.

That figure immediately complicates negotiations, given Trabzonspor’s record transfer outlay sits significantly lower, around €6.9 million (approximately £6 million).

Joshua Zirkzee and Manuel Ugarte also sit within the broader group of players United are prepared to move on, according to reports.

Who Do United Bring In?

With Altay Bayindir also expected to exit alongside Onana, United face the prospect of reshaping their goalkeeping department entirely. The club intend to bring in a deputy to support Senne Lammens, but the profile of that understudy remains unsettled.

Radek Vitek stands as a leading internal option. The Bristol City loanee has impressed, but he has made clear his priorities: regular first-team football rather than a developmental role. That stance creates a natural tension with United’s current plan, which likely involves a backup role rather than immediate minutes.

There is reportedly interest in Carl Rushworth of Brighton, who represents another credible alternative. He has enjoyed a strong loan spell at Coventry, playing a key role in their push towards the Premier League. Yet his performances have attracted multiple suitors, and his trajectory suggests ambition that may not align with a bench role at Old Trafford.
