It’s Carrick – Manchester United ‘Expected’ To Offer Permanent Job

  • Manchester United now expected to offer Michael Carrick job
  • English coach has backing of squad
  • Crucial announcement comes soon to plan for summer

Michael Carrick‘s magic spell as Manchester United head coach looks set to continue beyond this season. The Englishman returned to Old Trafford in January, replacing Ruben Amorim.

The former United midfielder and interim coach took over a beleaguered Red Devils side. He was tasked with guiding them out of a gloomy period and into a top-five race.

Carrick has done that and more, making the job look relatively easy during his four months in the dugout. Yesterday, his troops beat Liverpool 3-2, a scoreline that flattered the visitors, given a dominant first-half performance.

Michael Carrick is Man Utd’s Man

Carrick has made some astute decisions since taking over, but none more so than reintergrating Kobbie Mainoo. The English midfielder looked to be headed for the exit door after struggling to win Amorim over.

Mainoo scored the winner for United against Liverpool, just days after committing his long-term future to the club. He said after the game that the players want to “fight” for Carrick.

A report from Jamie Jackson of The Guardian suggests they will be doing just that come next season. It’s claimed that Carrick is “expected to be offered the chance to continue as head coach.”

Jason Wilcox and Omar Berrada have been “impressed” with the Englishman’s impact and are aware of how much support he has from his squad. Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Matheus Cunha have all informed INEOS that they want him to continue.

Should Carrick agree to continue he’ll be overseeing United’s return to the Champions League next season. His side confirmed their place in Europe’s elite club competition yesterday and their coach achieved INEOS’ mandate.

Get it Done INEOS

It now seems inevitable that Carrick will be the permanent coach of United. Letting the situation drive on into the summer is pointless and he is the best candidate given the lack of options available on the managerial market.

If INEOS can make an announcement following the final game of the season, that would be a perfect way to kickstart the summer. And it’s an important one, with plenty of work to do to build a squad capable of competing domestically and in Europe.

Casemiro needs replacing, and Manuel Ugarte might also be departing. Adding an experienced frontman to the squad could be on the cards, as well as strengthening the defence and potentially bringing a new left winger to Old Trafford.

The World Cup allows Carrick to properly sit down with United’s top brass and plan for the 2026-27 campaign. We haven’t even seen the type of football that he ideally wants the team to play as his main focus this season was to address the issues that took hold from Amorim’s reign.
