Hannah Blundell has left Manchester United Women following the expiry of her contract, bringing her spell with the club to a formal close.
The 31-year-old defender spent the second half of last season on loan at Everton, and her exit removes another experienced figure from Marc Skinner’s squad before the 2026/27 campaign.
Manchester United confirmed that Blundell has left the club after her contract expired, thanking the defender for her contribution. She joined United in 2021 and later became part of the squad that won the 2023/24 Women’s FA Cup.
Blundell’s departure is not just a contract-line update. Her WSL profile lists Chelsea, Manchester United and Everton among her clubs, while noting that she made 13 league appearances last season, including three for United before her Everton loan.
Marc Skinner Faces A Clear Depth Decision
Blundell brought reliability, experience and positional understanding. That matters for a United squad still trying to balance domestic demands with European ambition.
The timing also sharpens the wider squad logic. Skinner’s group has been reshaped around a younger, higher-output core, with Jess Park becoming one of the attack’s reference points.
But the defensive unit needs equal clarity behind the headline names. United cannot afford drift around the margins of the squad, especially after another summer of contract decisions and squad turnover.
Blundell leaves with an FA Cup winners’ medal and clear respect from the club. For United, the harder task is replacing the reliability she once represented.
Skinner does not need every summer decision to be spectacular. He does need the squad to look coherent before the season starts.
