Six Manchester United Exits Become Official As Contract Deadline Passes

Manchester United’s retained-list exits have now formally taken effect after the 30 June contract deadline passed, leaving Michael Carrick with a cleaner but thinner squad base for the first phase of pre-season.

The Premier League’s released list names Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, Sonny Aljofree, Dermot Mee and Malachi Sharpe as free transfers from United, while James Bailey is listed as released.

United had already confirmed Casemiro, Sancho and Malacia would depart when their deals expired.

Casemiro And Sancho Exits Sharpen Carrick’s Rebuild

Casemiro’s exit is the most structurally important. The Brazilian leaves after 160 United appearances, 26 goals and two major trophies, but his departure also removes a senior holding midfielder just as Carrick is trying to rebuild the engine room around younger legs and sharper pressing.

That is why the club’s Ederson delay now carries extra urgency. United cannot allow the midfield reset to drift into July with numbers falling before replacements are fully bedded in.

Sancho’s departure closes an expensive, unresolved chapter rather than creating a fresh tactical hole, while Malacia’s exit underlines how ruthless United have become around availability. For Carrick, the message is blunt: the wage bill has room to breathe, but the squad still needs substance before Wrexham open the pre-season schedule on 18 July.
