Rashford and Mainoo await England lineup decision for Norway tie

Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo will find out tonight whether they have earned England starts in the World Cup quarter-final against Norway.

Thomas Tuchel’s side face Norway at Miami Stadium, with kick-off set for 10pm BST.

Reuters reports England have received a fitness lift before the game, with Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Reece James all returning to full training. Jarell Quansah is suspended after his red card against Mexico, while Jordan Henderson remains out with a broken arm.

ReadManUtd covered Rashford and Mainoo’s England selection dilemma on Friday, with both United players hoping for a bigger role after staying on the bench in the 3-2 last-16 win over Mexico.

Haaland Stands In England’s Way

Norway arrive with major momentum after beating Brazil 2-1 in the last 16.

Erling Haaland scored twice in that game and has been Norway’s main tournament weapon. England will need defensive control, but Tuchel also has decisions to make further forward.

Rashford could give England pace against tired legs if he starts on the bench again. He also offers a direct option if Norway defend deeper and protect space around Martin Odegaard.

Mainoo’s route looks less clear. Rice’s return strengthens England’s midfield options, while Adam Wharton remains another contender for minutes.

ReadManUtd also reported how Mainoo and Rashford reached the quarter-finals after England’s chaotic Mexico win. Tonight will show whether Tuchel sees either United player as more than squad cover.

For Michael Carrick, the calculation is different. More England minutes would sharpen both players before their eventual return to Carrington. Another unused night would protect their workload, but leave questions over rhythm.

Either way, one of United’s World Cup subplots reaches a decisive point in Miami.
