Manchester United reportedly face competition from Liverpool in the race to sign Roma midfielder Manu Koné this summer.
United have identified the France international as one of several options to complete Michael Carrick’s midfield rebuild.
Liverpool are now closely monitoring Koné’s situation after tracking his performances at the World Cup. However, neither Premier League club has submitted a formal offer.
Roma have placed a €60million valuation on the 25-year-old, worth around £51million. Atlético Madrid previously offered approximately £34million, but the Italian club rejected their approach.
Manchester United remain most interested in Manu Koné
According to This Is Anfield, reports in Italy describe United as the club showing the strongest interest in Koné. Liverpool and Chelsea are also monitoring developments.
United have already strengthened their midfield with the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans. However, Manuel Ugarte’s knee injury and Casemiro’s departure have left Carrick seeking another physical option.
Koné would provide powerful ball-carrying, defensive intensity and the ability to advance possession through pressure. Those qualities could complement the creativity offered by United’s existing midfielders.
ReadManUtd previously reported that Manchester United could submit a £42.5million Koné bid this week. Roma’s latest reported valuation suggests United may need to improve that figure to reach an agreement.
The Frenchman joined Roma from Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2024 and remains under a long-term contract. Roma confirmed his arrival on an initial loan with a mandatory purchase clause.
Liverpool’s interest could increase the pressure on United to act. However, the Red Devils appear to remain ahead of their rivals as Carrick looks to add another midfielder before the new season.
