Manchester United winger targets are under fresh scrutiny after Crysencio Summerville moved closer to joining Al Hilal. Michael Carrick still needs a natural wide forward, with Bradley Barcola and Rafael Leão among six possible alternatives.
Al Hilal have agreed a £68million deal for Summerville. United had considered the Netherlands international after West Ham’s relegation, but the Saudi club moved decisively.
Carrick used Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu from the left last season. Both can play there, although neither is an orthodox left winger who consistently attacks defenders.
United have Champions League football ahead and need more variety in attack. These six options could now enter the conversation.
Elite Manchester United winger targets
Bradley Barcola would represent the most ambitious option. The 23-year-old offers speed, direct running and proven end product, although Paris Saint-Germain would demand a huge fee.
Barcola could become more open to leaving if PSG add further attacking competition. However, Arsenal and Liverpool are also monitoring his situation, which would make negotiations difficult.
Rafael Leão offers a more experienced alternative. The Portugal international has told AC Milan he wants a new challenge and could reportedly be available for around £43million.
Leão is at his best when carrying the ball from the left. He would add speed and individual quality, but United would need confidence in his defensive work and consistency.
Iliman Ndiaye may provide the safest Premier League option. United have previously considered the Everton forward, who can play from either flank or behind a striker.
Everton would demand a significant fee, with figures around £70million discussed. His output is lower than Barcola or Leão, although his league experience would reduce the adaptation risk.
Three emerging alternatives for Manchester United
Antonio Nusa enhanced his reputation during Norway’s World Cup run. The RB Leipzig winger combines quick feet with creativity and can move inside or attack the byline.
At 21, Nusa still needs to improve his decision-making and finishing. Nevertheless, his potential could make him a strong long-term investment for Carrick.
Said El Mala offers another emerging Bundesliga option. The Köln winger scored 13 goals last season and has already attracted a £42.7million offer from Brentford.
El Mala rejected that opportunity, but United would offer Champions League football and a larger platform. He remains raw, although his ability in tight spaces could suit Carrick’s plan to dominate possession.
Matias Fernandez-Pardo completes the six-player shortlist. The Lille forward registered eight goals and five assists in Ligue 1 last season and can also operate centrally.
The Belgium international brings pace, strength and strong one-on-one ability. He may not arrive as an immediate guaranteed starter, but his versatility would strengthen several attacking positions.
United must balance quality with value
United have also made an enquiry for Crystal Palace winger Ismaïla Sarr. However, the six options above offer different combinations of potential, experience and resale value.
Barcola would make the greatest immediate statement, while Leão appears more affordable. Ndiaye brings Premier League experience, whereas Nusa, El Mala and Fernandez-Pardo fit a longer-term recruitment model.
United cannot allow the Summerville setback to end their winger search. Carrick needs another direct attacker before the window closes, but the club must avoid an expensive reactionary deal.
The next choice should complement Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo. Finding that balance will determine which Manchester United winger targets become genuine transfer options.
