Michael Carrick wants two more Man Utd signings as £100m stance emerges

Michael Carrick wants Manchester United to make two more signings before the transfer window closes, with a left-back and central midfielder high on his list of priorities.

United have already added Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow this summer, but Carrick believes further improvement is needed before his first full campaign in charge begins.

Michael Carrick wants more Man Utd signings

Paul Hirst reports for The Times that Carrick remains keen to strengthen two areas of his squad.

United want another left-back to reduce the reliance on Luke Shaw, while an additional central midfielder is also being sought following Casemiro’s departure and Manuel Ugarte’s injury.

Carrick is pleased with the business United have completed so far, but believes there is still room to add more quality and depth before the window shuts.

The midfield search is already producing several potential options.

ReadManUtd reported earlier on Thursday that United have made an enquiry about Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with the Senegal international valued at around £65 million.

Real Madrid pair Eduardo Camavinga and Aurelien Tchouameni have also been linked with Old Trafford, while United continue to assess their options at left-back.

Carrick’s comments come alongside an important indication of how United intend to approach the remainder of the transfer window.

The Guardian reports that Carrick does not expect United to make a £100 million individual signing despite several Premier League rivals spending heavily this summer.

United have spent around £85 million on Tielemans and Santos, with Carrick instead stressing the importance of finding players who improve the group rather than simply matching the spending of their rivals.

That leaves United with an interesting final few weeks of the window.

Carrick clearly wants further reinforcements, but the club appear determined to remain disciplined over fees. Finding the right midfielder and left-back at an acceptable price could now shape the remainder of United’s summer business.
