Dwight Yorke believes Manchester United’s attack is now much closer to Liverpool’s than it has been in recent years.
Manchester United spent heavily on their attack line in 2025, bringing in Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. This summer, their focus has been on midfield, while Marcus Rashford, who has been tipped for a great season under Michael Carrick, has returned after his loan spell at Barcelona.
Liverpool, meanwhile, have made major changes up front. Mohamed Salah has left, with Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz arriving, while Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike remain their senior striker options.
Dwight Yorke sees little between the two attacks
Dwight Yorke believes Manchester United can now go toe-to-toe with Liverpool in attack.
“[This] wouldn’t have been the case maybe four or five years ago, but I think that is the case now,” Yorke told Liverpool.com.
The former United striker pointed to the club’s attacking depth, particularly across the wide areas.
“I think United, and Sesko specifically, is as good as anybody in the league when he’s on form,” Yorke added. “If you look across the flanks, we’ve got players in these various areas like Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo who can play wide left and right and really be creative.”
Dwight Yorke isn’t stopping there. He believes United have also closed the gap to Manchester City.
“I don’t think we are far off from the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City now.”
There is still plenty to prove, but Dwight Yorke believes Michael Carrick has enough quality available now.
Four or five years ago, Liverpool had the fearsome Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino frontline. Dwight Yorke believes the gap between the two clubs in attack is no longer anything like it once was.
