Manchester United face Ipswich Town in their first Capital One Cup game of the season on Wednesday night, but will it cause problems for ITV?
The game kicks off at 20:00 BST, and both the home and travelling fans could be an issue – why, I hear you ask?
To celebrate ITV’s 60th anniversary, they are airing a special live episode of the well-known soap, Coronation Street. The show is filmed in Salford’s Media City, which is just a stone’s throw away from Old Trafford – it takes around five minutes to walk from the front of the stadium to the quays and Media City.
There are concerns that should United score against Ipswich as they are obviously expected to do, the cheers of the home fans will be audible on the television to the viewers of the live broadcast of Coronation Street.
The live episode starts at 19:30, just half an hour before kickoff, so there will be a 30-minute overlap with the first half of Manchester United vs Ipswich Town. Fans travelling to Old Trafford could also be an issue seeing as many fans only get to the ground just in time for kick-off, so chanting before the game could also be heard on air on ITV.
The Daily Star have revealed that security will be increased in order to have the show run as smoothly as possible alongside the match.
