Manchester United have a busy summer transfer window in store, in which at least one new midfielder is expected to arrive. Casemiro is set to leave when his contract expires in June, despite recent talk of a possible U-turn.
Casemiro is enjoying one of his best seasons since joining the Reds from Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 for £70m. The 34-year-old has registered seven goals and two assists in the Premier League.
Speculation is growing over who Manchester United will turn to once the Brazilian bids farewell to the Theatre of Dreams. It was previously reported that he had advised the club to try to sign Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes.
Going for Guimaraes

Guimaraes is regarded as one of the Premier League’s best all-round midfielders and has thrived at St James’ Park. He now has years of experience under his belt and could be eager to continue playing in the UEFA Champions League.

Newcastle suffered a humiliating 7-2 (8-3 aggregate) loss to Barcelona which sent them crashing out of the competition in the Round of 16. As a result, their hopes of remaining amongst Europe’s elite next season are extremely slim.
A stunning report from Brazilian journalist Fernando Kallas claims via Reuters that the club are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Guimaraes for £70m. Real Madrid could complicate the proposed move.
Kallas is one of the most reliable Brazilian reporters and was among the most accurate in reporting the player’s switch to St James’ Park back in early 2022. The Red Devils are admirers of the former Lyon star.
Guimaraes is somewhat of a dream signing when you put into perspective how he ranks in the English top-flight. He is a world-class talent whose leadership qualities are just as impressive as his ball-handling and press resistance.
Agent Casemiro?
Casemiro may well be playing a role in making the move happen. He’s teammates with Guimaraes at international level with Brazil, and they should be pairing up at this summer’s World Cup.
A report last month claimed that he had “recommended” the Newcastle man to the club. He will have two years on his contract this summer, which does put the Tyneside outfit under pressure.
Casemiro previously waxed lyrical about his Brazilian compatriot (via The Mag):
“Bruno Guimaraes is a player who has been doing an exceptional job at Newcastle. With every practice and every game, I am more comfortable with him. He is a great player. He has been demonstrating this in the most difficult league in the world.“
Guimaraes isn’t a defensive midfielder and possesses more of a box-to-box profile. But he could be one of two signings with the club also continuing to eye the likes of holding midfield duo Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton.
