Bruno Fernandes has decided to remain at Manchester United despite continued interest from Saudi Arabia. The captain’s decision provides Michael Carrick with a major boost as he prepares his squad for the new season.
The Mirror reports that Fernandes has committed his future to United, although he has not yet signed a new contract. The 31-year-old remains central to Carrick’s plans after another influential campaign at Old Trafford.
Fernandes has previously attracted lucrative interest from Saudi Pro League clubs. However, the Portugal international remains determined to compete at the highest level with United.
His decision also removes a major source of uncertainty during an important transfer window. United have already signed Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, but neither arrival reduces Fernandes’ importance as the team’s primary creator.

Carrick used Fernandes in an advanced midfield role after taking charge last season. The captain responded with consistently decisive performances and helped United secure Champions League qualification.
Keeping him gives Carrick an established leader around whom he can build his new midfield. Santos can provide energy and ball-winning ability, while Tielemans offers greater control from deeper areas.
Manchester United are expected to hold contract talks with Fernandes in the coming months. His current agreement expires in June 2027, although the club hold an option to extend it for a further season.
That option means United are not under immediate pressure to sell. Even so, securing fresh terms would provide greater long-term certainty and reward the captain’s importance to Carrick’s project.
Fernandes’ decision does not solve every issue within the squad. United still want another midfielder and reinforcements in several defensive positions.
However, losing their captain would have created another major rebuilding job. His commitment allows Carrick to concentrate on improving the structure around United’s most reliable attacking player.
