Barcelona are rapidly running out of time to secure the permanent signing of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, according to a recent report by journalist Sebastien Vidal.
The English forward spent the 2025/26 campaign on loan at the Nou Camp under Hansi Flick, where he spectacularly revitalised his career.
However, despite a highly successful spell in Spain, a major administrative deadline is looming that could completely derail the Catalan giants’ hopes of keeping him.
Clock is ticking for Barcelona
When United agreed to send Rashford out on loan last summer, INEOS and the United hierarchy smartly protected their asset by inserting a €30 million (£26m) buy option clause into the contract.
Rashford did everything in his power to justify that price tag. Breaking back into top form, he registered an impressive 14 goals and 14 assists across all competitions, helping guide Barca to the La Liga title. Despite his clear impact, the Spanish side have hesitated to trigger the agreement, and time is officially running out.
The agreed purchase option clause expires on June 15, meaning the Catalans have just over a week to officially act. If the deadline passes without them activating the clause, the €30m fixed price becomes completely void.
Man Utd in control
Should the Catalan outfit fail to beat the clock, Man Utd will reclaim total control over the player’s market value.
While Barcelona have spent recent weeks trying to adopt a “wait-and-see” approach, even floating the idea of forcing a cut-price £13m deal due to their ongoing financial constraints, the Red Devils have stood firm. Reports suggest United know that Rashford’s blistering form under Flick has resurrected his market appeal, and they will not be bullied into a bargain-basement fee if the current window closes.
If Barcelona lets the June 15 deadline pass, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the United board will be free to demand a much higher premium from other suitors or force Barca into a completely renegotiated, more expensive structure.
Rashford wants Barcelona
For his part, the Manchester United academy graduate has made it no secret that he wants to remain in Spain. Rashford even accepted a massive 40% wage cut just to facilitate the initial loan move last summer, and he has quickly settled into the dressing room.
Flick has also explicitly told Rashford that he remains a fundamental part of his future tactical blueprints. However, Barcelona’s recent £69m acquisition of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United has complicated their financial flexibility, leaving Rashford’s permanent transfer hanging by a thread.
With only days remaining until the contract clause expires, the ball is firmly in Barcelona’s court. They must find the €30m immediately or risk watching United impose a much harsher reality on the winger’s future.
